Cultivating Community & Ecosystem Resilience Through Herbal Medicine

Cultivating Community & Ecosystem Resilience Through Herbal Medicine

About Us

Ecozoica is a small operation rooted in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of Southern Colorado. From our 11-acre homestead, we handcraft herbal products entirely off-grid. At the heart of our work is bioregional herbalism — honoring the traditional uses of native plants while tending to the wild stands we harvest from. Each product begins with reciprocity and care, ensuring these plant communities thrive for generations to come.

Sustainability guides every part of our process: our apothecary is solar-powered and wood-heated; packaging favors glass and recyclable materials; and any plastic used is repurposed from shipments we receive. Ingredients are sourced as locally and responsibly as possible from trusted growers and wild places we steward.

Our aesthetic is vintage apothecary meets high desert forest — designed to invite connection with the plants themselves. We create from relationship with place and plant, rather than from trend or mass appeal.

Threefold Mission:

  • Foster nature-connected living and engaged local communities
  • Expand education and access to herbal medicine in rural Southern Colorado
  • Cultivate climate resilience through sustainable land stewardship

About Owner/Herbalist Amanda Ellis

Amanda’s relationship with the Earth began early and has unfolded through a life shaped by movement, curiosity, and devotion to the natural world. Her path has woven through the equine industry, years spent living on the road as a nomadic rock climber and mountaineer, and ultimately into the quiet, rooted life she now cultivates.

In 2020, after purchasing an off-grid homestead in Colorado’s San Luis Valley, Amanda developed a deep connection to the native plants of this high-desert ecosystem. Through years of dedicated self-study and extensive training with Herbal Medics Academy—including classes within their Clinical Herbalism and Apothecarist tracks—she built the foundation for her work as a medicine maker. She continues her studies through local mentorship, immersive seminars, and direct relationship with the plants themselves.

In 2025, she launched Ecozoica Apothecary, where she crafts forest-grade, bioregional herbal products rooted in place and practice. Her work centers on wildcrafting, tending native plant communities, and creating remedies that reflect a deep relationship with the land.

Beyond the apothecary, Amanda is passionate about increasing access to herbal knowledge in rural Southern Colorado. She offers hands-on workshops, plant walks, and educational opportunities designed to reconnect people with the plants that grow around them.
